Do Mosquitoes Bite Dogs? What Owners Should Know
Yes, mosquitoes can bite dogs. Keep veterinary heartworm prevention separate from mosquito treatment around the yard.
The veterinary question matters
FDA explains that infected mosquitoes can transmit heartworm larvae to pets. Yard mosquito service does not replace veterinary prevention, testing, or treatment.
Ask your veterinarian about the appropriate plan. Do not stop or change a prescribed preventive because yard treatment has begun.
Prepare the outdoor area
Tell us where your dog spends time, its access route, and where bowls, toys, and bedding are kept. Explain areas you want reviewed before application.
For spray visits, our standard guidance is approximately one hour with the application allowed to dry. Follow different product- or property-specific directions from the technician.
Keep the responsibilities clear
The veterinarian handles your dog’s health. We handle mosquito treatment in your yard. Mosquito reduction is not complete protection for the animal.
If you suspect exposure or your pet seems unwell, contact a veterinarian promptly. Give the veterinarian the details of any products your pet may have been exposed to.
